OK. It's been crazy lately, but good crazy. I don't want to back up and to 18 posts so here's one post -- point by point to catch you up.
• Had an emergency appendectomy almost two weeks ago. You probably know that, but it's been weird getting back into the groove without lifting over 15 lbs. (yeah, right!). Feeling pretty good and took the bandages off of the three incisions today, even though I'm not supposed to for another week. But in my defense, they were bugging me.
• The Doctor told me in no uncertain terms that running the half marathon that I'd been training for was OUT. It's a bummer to do the long runs, put in the training and then a week before the event be told that you can't do it. But we had all of our reservations and time off to head over to Monterey, so we went anyway. I picked up my goodie bag, got my timing chip, and even received a cool technical running shirt for the Big Sur Half Marathon. After already paying my registration fee and being told there are NO REFUNDS and NO TRANSFERS, it ended up being the most expensive shirt I own.
• We stayed this past weekend between Salinas and Monterey at this old farmhouse. It was built in the 1800's and has been restored, but it was a really peaceful and cool place to stay. No Tv's, no computers, no stereo's at all. Just a woodburning stove, family games, and some good books to read. I really feel refreshed.
• Saturday night we met up with the Smith Family and the Rodriguez family for dinner at California Pizza Kitchen. We had a blast and stayed around talking til the serving staff stopped asking if we wanted refills and just stared at us. Dan, Sarah, and Carlos all finished the half marathon the next morning and did GREAT! Congratulations guys!
• The place where we stayed had so many fun things for us: we hiked around the farm, played tennis and basketball, rollerbladed, jumped on the trampoline, and rode the zip line (well at least the kids did. I'm not sure they want someone my size on it). It was so hard to leave we stayed another night. We will definitely be heading back there again to be renewed and refreshed.
• I got such a kick out of seeing the kids play on the trampoline that we took the plunge here at home. Our great neighbors were asking a week ago if anyone wanted their trampoline, and at the time I said, "NO!". But this morning I went for a walk and stopped by their house to see if they still had it and still wanted to find a home for it. They were thrilled, and an hour later a group of six of us were walking it down the alley and into our backyard. The kids (and a few adults I know…) played on it all day and HAD A BLAST!
• Eric wasn't able to go with us to the coast because he had Cross Country sub-sections up at Calavaras County Fairgrounds. This course is BRUTAL for these valley kids who never see hills. It usually tears them up, but Eric ran the varsity race and pulled in a great time of 19:40 for the 5k race. That's about 6:30 for each mile. If only I…
• I'm right on track to finish reading the entire Bible by the end of the year. In fact, it will be the number 52 book on my 52 in 52 list to the left. I'm finishing up Jeremiah tomorrow. Man, that is a tough book. I'll give you some of my thoughts in another post.
• We took our bikes with us this weekend and had a blast riding the bike road through Monterey and just barely into Pacific Grove. I love biking there.
I know this post was all over the map and back and forth, but that's the way it came to my mind. I'm ready for a great week, and a powerful weekend coming up as I get to teach in this "Unshakeable" series. I feel refreshed, charged, on track, and focused. It's a great season. I feel God has big things in store.
